Living in grace, growing in grace, sharing God's grace with others.
*********************************************************************************************
From Pastor's Desk
As you drive around in the country you will see many farmers out in their fields working to get their crops in the ground for the season. Over the last few weeks we have had some wonderful weather allowing the farmers to get into their fields. Let us keep all those individuals working in the fields in our prayers for safety. We all know these next few weeks will be busy with graduations and the ending of the school year events.
Summer is fast approaching with VBS starting on June 11th to the 15th and the next week from June 17th to June 22nd the Confirmation youth will be attending Confirmation camp at NESODAK for that week. A few weeks later the youth will be finishing up and packing for New Orleans. With God's help all the events planned for this summer will just fall into place and all will be good. I am sure many of you are looking forward to some nice warm days after being teased off and on this spring with 80 degree days and a few days later we are back down to the 40's or 50's. But how great it is to see God's creation as it has begun to bloom with the tulips, the daffodils flowers opening up, and now this week with all the trees buds flowering. Isn't it nice to see the wonderful colors of green, red, yellow, purple and white, instead of the brown dead grass and fields we have been used to this winter season? Isn't it amazing to see how God's creation continues to regenerate throughout the seasons of the year, God has given us a wonderful place to live and care for, but the question is "are we doing the best we can when it comes to caring for God's creation?' I was just discussing this very topic with some of the residents at Roetells this morning, and it was commented how now many farmers are removing their shelter belts so they have more land to farm, and how in the 1930's many farmers wished they had shelter belts to keep the wind from blowing away their top soil. The residents talked about how they would see dark clouds on the horizon, thinking it was rain clouds and in all actuality it was dust and dirt being blown around. Sometimes we forget the past and repeat it. God gave us this world to care for and to make it the best that we can, yet there are many times we do the opposite then what we have be taught or experienced over the years.
In the summer it seems the majority of churches run into the problem of smaller participation in church activities including Sunday worship services. I found a humorous dialogue between a member of a church and their pastor regarding taking summer off of from worship it goes like this: Member: "We take summer off from worship to get away to the cabin." Pastor: "That's okay; God doesn't care about you during the summer either." Which we all know is not true in the greatest of sense, because God does care about us all the time, including summer. But I think the Pastor was making a point, if we don't find our faith or church important all year round, why would God find us important all year round. He is saying that God loves us everyday and He makes time for us everyday, so why can't we as His children make time for Him everyday, even on those days in the summer when we want to spend time at our cabins, or just traveling? We as Christians need to remember that no matter the time of year, we are called to honor the Sabbath, and the Sabbath happens weekly, no matter where we maybe. Whether you are here sitting in a pew on a Sunday morning or not our church still is. Imagine what it would be like if all of a sudden after being gone from your pew all summer you came back in the fall and your church or pew was not longer here, how would that make you feel? Would you wonder what happened in those 3 months you were taking off to spend at the cabin or the lake? In reality the church still runs with you in the pews or without you in the pews, and we would love to have you in the pews throughout the summer months. God needs you and your church needs you!!!
In Christ's Love,
Pastor Robin

Fifty days after Jesus' resurrection, on a day called Pentecost, the Christian church was born. Because Pentecost was a holiday celebrating the harvest (a bit like Thanksgiving), the apostles and a large crowd had gathered to celebrate in Jerusalem.
Many people assembled near Peter and the other followers of Christ when "from heaven there came a sound, like the rush of a violent wind..." (Acts 2:2). Then tongues of fire descended on everyone in the crowd.
After the wind and fire descended, all sorts of languages, known and unknown, came out of the crowd. Each person spoke "about God's deeds pf power (verse 11)." No wonder Luke wrote, "All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, 'What does this mean?'" (verse 12).
The whole affair was mind-boggling and life-changing. The Holy Spirit had come upon the many people; they knew God was powerfully at work in their midst.
On Pentecost many years ago, some 3,000 people came to believe in Christ. That's why today Christians remember this powerful event as the birthday of the church. Pentecost occurs on May 23 this year.

New Orleans Trip
With the help of everyone in our congregation the youth have raised $8,500.00 for their trip to New Orleans for the National Youth Gathering. Without all of your help we could not have raised the amount of money needed to attend the Gathering, so a big "THANK YOU" goes out to all of you. Just a little information regarding the trip as a whole: The Theme of the Gathering is "Citizens with the Saints" this comes from Ephesians 2:14-20.
- We will be taking a bus from Southwest Tours.
- At this point in time all the registration has been paid for, the deposit for the hotel has be sent, we need yet to send a deposit of $1000.00 to Southwest Tours.
- There will be three groups on our bus, they include: St. Paul Lutheran, Clark; Dell Rapids Lutheran, Dell Rapids; and Clear Lake Lutheran, Clear Lake. We were just able to finalize all those who would be on the bus on Thursday April 19th when Dell Rapids contacted me to let us know they would be a part of our group attending. With the 2 churches we will be splitting the $9,000.00 cost of the bus by the number of people riding the bus. Which comes to $200.00 per person.
- With chaperones and youth there will be a total of 52 people on the bus. Out bus will be travelling with the bus out of Sisseton, with the youth group from the Sisseton Lutheran group attending the Gathering.
- For the first time ever the Gathering is putting all those attending the Gathering from the same state in the same hotel. The hotel our youth as well as the rest of the youth from South Dakota will be staying in is the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel, which is about 2 blocks from the convention center and about 5 blocks from the dome where all the evening activities will be held. The hotel cost is $135.00 per night per room and we have 6 rooms, which accommodates all our youth attending.
- The plan at this time is to leave in the morning on the 17th of July and return on the 23rd of July. If money and time allows we may be stopping at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City for a few hours of fun.
- The Gathering starts on July 18th with the opening of the Gathering at the dome. The rest of the week has been broken down into different events and times. At this time I know our youth will be involved in Practice Peacemaking at 7:30 on Friday. On Thursday they will be Practicing Discipleship (that would be our servant event) time and place have yet to be scheduled. On Saturday they will be Practicing Justice with time to be announced. But we are on the Gold track.
- The youth and I will be doing a Bible Study starting in June to prepare for the Gathering. It was decided to wait until that time, when the youth attending are no longer in school or sports. Our plan is to meet Sunday mornings after church. These are the topics of the Bible Studies we will be doing at that time:
Session A: Citizens with the Saints, Part 1
Session B: Baptismal Identity and Promises
Session C: Discipleship
Session D: Peacemaking
Session E: Justice
Session F: Citizens with the Saints, Part 2
- The youth are planning 2 more fundraisers and they are to: 1. Bake pies and sale them on Mother's Day and 2. 2 Burger feeds in June and July downtown like we did 4 years ago. This is just in case any unexpected expenses would arise.
- This is the group of youth and chaperones attending the Gathering: Corteny Binger, Emily Binger, Lucas Buechler, Kallan Christman, Brandon Clausen,
Chelsie Gehrke, Hannah Gruenwald, Ashley Heupel, Mikal Kirkeby, Janelle
Paulson, Kathryn Paulson, Gregg Stormo, Michael Stormo, Kendra Stromsness,
Chasity Terrill, Robin R Wanner-Schaunaman
- With the fundraising the youth have raised enough money to contribute $30.00 a day towards the youths food.
We would also like to thank everyone who has donated any items, their time, and their help in making this trip possible.
I hope this helps give a little more insight on the trip to New Orleans and where the money has gone that all of you have so generously given to the group, it is so very appreciated. If you have any concerns or issues please get in touch with me or one of the youth attending the Gathering, we will sure try to answer your questions and deal with your concerns.
Thanks you,
Pastor Robin
