Welcome to America's Heartland! Located in southwestern Minnesota, Lake Benton is nestled in a scenic valley on the shores of the lake which gives the city its name. Situated at the crossroads of U.S. Highways 75 and 14, Lake Benton is truly the gateway to the Old West. Interstate Highways I-29 and I-90 are only a few short miles away, bringing Lake Benton within travel distance of Minneapolis (180 miles to the northeast).

Lake Benton and its vicinity include some of the highest elevation land in the entire state of Minnesota, one reason why our area has emerged as a nation-wide leader in the clean, efficient generation of electricity by windpower. The land in and around Lake Benton is significantly different geologically from other areas in Lincoln County. The Bemis moraine, a sharp ridge of land created by ancient glacial action, forms a great divide between the Missouri and Mississippi River basins.
