Highlights of the 2010 Winter Games


Let the Games Begin

Governor's Winter Games were held January 15-17 at Lake Poinsett and the Outskirts Lodge.  Friday started out with the KWAT Pounders fishing Tournament on Lake Poinsett which drew 220 fishermen. 

Huge crowd enjoyed the free hot dog and chili feed Saturday that was offered from 11AM to 2PM.

Safety Course
Saturday there were twenty two participants that took part in our annual Safety Course.  The instructors were Anna Smith and Samantha Walder.  They each received a Poinsett Pounders stocking cap.

Kitty Kat timed event for kids 5-10 years old
Fifty seven boys and girls participated in the Kitty Kat Snowmobile Races.  The girl with the fasted time was Lily Smith of Hayti.  The boy with the fastest time was Brock Longville of Brookings.  They each received a first place trophy.  The remaining participants also received a trophy for participating.

Family Ride

Family ride took place on Saturday afternoon traveling to Lake Norden, Badger and back to Lake Poinsett where we stopped to enjoy our Annual  fireworks.

Big Bucks Poker Run   

Sunday began with registration for the Big Bucks Poker ride.  We had 818 poker hands, riding in or on anything available, as long as you  could get from one stop to the next.  The big winner for the day was Cutler Laube of Bryant  taking home the $3,000.00. Tom Card, Huron was the second place winner collecting $300.00. Our third place winner taking home $200.00 was Jon Rider from Henry. Lily Smith of Hayti took home the fourth place at $150.00.  Fifth place was John Schnnaible of Aberdeen receiving $100.00.

Troy Nelson of Erwin won the $100.00 for making it to all 13 stops.
