ABOUT BOB JANSSEN: Bob Janssen is one of the most experienced and respected birders in the state of Minnesota. He is a past president of the Minnesota Ornithologists Union and served for 38 years as the editor of the MOU journal "The Loon". Bob has published three books on avian life in Minnesota and is acknowledged to be the state's leading expert on bird distribution. He has been a birding instructor at the Bell Museum at the University of Minnesota and Metropolitan State University. Bob has been retained to conduct numerous bird surveys across the state for the DNR, USF&WS, as well as private companies. He has acted as field trip leader, class instructor, and guide for many of the best bird festivals in Minnesota including the Big Stone Birding Festival. His years of experience and identification abilities make him one of the best guides and instructors in the upper mid-west. Bob has the unique distinction of having found LeConte's Sparrow in every county in the entire state of Minnesota.
ABOUT DOUG BURI: Doug Buri is a life long birder with a BS degree in zoology. He was born and raised here in eastern SD and has an intimate knowledge of this region and it's bird life. His interest in birds and birding has led him to pursue them around the globe on five different continents. Doug organized the first Big Stone NWR birding festival and acted as a guide for that event. He also guided the prairie field trips for the Detroit Lakes Festival of Birds with a focus on the sparrows and the Morris WMD birding festival. Doug has extensive experience with sparrow identification and their habitat requirements, and he knows the best methods of finding this group of birds in the field. Doug is also a shorebird expert who will be able to ID them when we come across those late season shorebird migrants.
